Positive virus case was a resident of migrant accommodation facility

National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has stated that one of the cases that tested positive for Covid-19 in the capital Male’ City was a resident of the Ameen Hiyaa Accommodation Facility, recently established in Hulhumale’ to house migrant workers.

Patient 36, was a resident of the 1000 capacity temporary accommodation facility in Hulhumale’. The facility was established to house migrants living in unsanitary conditions in the capital. Work to move the migrants to the facility was commenced last week.

Speaking in a news conference today, NEOC medical officer, Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said that Patient 36 was moved to the facility on April 12. The individual had traveled to Male’ to consult with doctors regarding flu symptoms. 

“The individual is an undocumented person. He was moved to the Ameen Hiyaa staff quarters in a bid to move migrants in congested living conditions on April 12,” 

“He had purchased medication from a pharmacy at first and administered the medicine before visiting the flu clinic yesterday.” Said Dr. Nazla.

She added that the person was in a house in Male’ City right now. Monitoring mechanisms have been placed in the area. The facility in Hulhumale’ has also been placed under monitoring mechanisms and authorities are searching for any suspected cases in the facility.
