National Emergency Operations Center, on Sunday, announced that seven residential islands have been brought under lockdown, and 10 places in Male’ have been quarantined in connection to new virus cases in Male’ and possible case outside of the capital.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced 16 new cases this Sunday: 13 Bangladeshi nationals linked to patient 27 – a 36-year-old Maldivian woman who tested positive after presenting to a flu clinic with symptoms; and two Indian nationals linked one to patient 28 – a 47-year-old Maldivian man who had tested positive after presenting to a flu clinic with symptoms.
Both patient 27 and patient 28 had tested positive on Friday, April 17.
The 16th case is a Bangladeshi national who has yet to be linked with any existing cluster.
Meanwhile, the screening sample taken from a H. A. Uligan resident who had recently travelled back from Male’ has come back positive for the virus, and is to be followed up with a confirmation test.
At a National Emergency Operations Center briefing this afternoon, spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez said temporary restrictive measures had been imposed on seven residential islands and 10 places in Male’ in connection to the new cases.
