Most recent 2 virus cases in Male' City not connected to other cases

The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has stated that two positive cases previously announced in Male’ City that were not in contact with any other positive case.

NEOC Medical officer Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said that the cases are Patient 27 and Patient 28, the most recent two cases confirmed in the capital Male’ City.

“From the cases, we have identified today, one of the cases is connected with Patient 23. We have not yet identified the other two cases as being connected with any other cases,” said Dr. Nazla.

She added that the two individuals had visited the flu clinic after symptoms were identified. Dr. Nazla also said that three clusters have been identified in Male’ City and said that a community spread existed in the capital.

“The cases we have identified today are not connected to any other cases. This means that a community spread is there within us,” said Dr. Nazla.

Authorities are still working to determine exactly how Patient 21 (the first case of the virus in the capital) was infected with the virus. It has still not been confirmed who “Patient 0” or the index case in Male’ City is.

The Maldives has so far confirmed 28 cases of Covid-19.
