Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Thursday, announced that 11 more residences have been placed under ‘monitoring’ following contract tracing done on the first person to test positive for COVID-19 in Male’ City.
The 11 residences are:
HPA had released a list of three more residences which have been quarantined in connection to the patient on Wednesday; two residences in Male’ and one residence in Addu City.
The first COVID-19 patient in Male’, ‘Patient 21’ was identified on Wednesday morning. The patient has neither recent travel history overseas nor contact with any other positive cases. Two others who had contact with the patient have since tested positive, including a toddler – a child of ‘Patient 21’.
Authorities are working on identifying the source of the infection and conducting contact tracing.
54 people have been identified through contact tracing, among them, 10 out of 11 people identified as direct contacts tested negative, while one tested positive – the child of the first patient.
Meanwhile, 14 of the contacts have developed symptoms consistent with COVID-19 and have been moved to Hulhule’ Island Hotel (HIH) for isolation.
The emergence of cases of COVID-19 in Male’ has prompted a lockdown on Male’, Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’. The lockdown was extended by another 24-hours this Thursday.
