Redwave reduces prices on onions, eggs and potatoes

RedWave, on Thursday, announced a reduction in its prices for onions, eggs and potatoes.

Redwave has announced that effective this Thursday, its supermarkets will begin selling a kilo of red onions for MVR 15, a kilo of white potatoes for MVR 15, and a white egg for MVR 1.50.

The supermarket chain noted that many were facing financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and urged people to shop at places which offer goods at lower prices.

Redwave is currently running a Ramadan promotion, which offers coupons for sales above MVR 500. The coupons can be used to enter a lucky draw where participants stand to win prizes, including a MVR 100,000 cash prize.

The supermarket chain also offers delivery services to customers in Male’ City and Hulhumale’, where people have been urged to stay at home as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.

The Economic Ministry, on April 6, imposed price controls on key food products; eggs, onions, potatoes and yellow lentils. The ceiling price of a kilo of onions is MVR 20, the ceiling price of a kilo of potatoes is MVR 20, the ceiling price of a kilo of yellow lentils is MVR 45, and the ceiling price of an egg is MVR 1.80.
