State Trading Organization (STO) has brought in a new shipment of perishables, and has begun selling onions at the rate of MVR 15 per kilo, and eggs at the rate of MVR 1.50.

THE NEW PRICES:

  • Eggs: A case at the rate of MVR 290, and a single egg at the rate of 1.50
  • Onions: A sack at the rate of MVR 325, and a kilo at the rate of MVR 15
  • Potatoes: A sack at the rate of MVR 250, and a kilo at the rate of MVR 12

According to STO, the new shipment is available for retail from the STO Supermart, and available for wholesale from the STO Industrial Village Warehouse.

The warehouse will be open Saturday-Thursday from 9 am to 12 pm and from 1 pm to 3:15 pm.

Following the rise in market prices for food products, the Economic Ministry imposed price controls on key products; eggs, onions, potatoes and yellow lentils. The ceiling price of a kilo of onions is MVR 20, the ceiling price of a kilo of potatoes is MVR 20, the ceiling price of a kilo of yellow lentils is MVR 45, and the ceiling price of an egg is MVR 1.80.

STO had controlled the quantity of eggs, onions and potatoes sold by the organization, and lowered their prices for the products, a week prior to the imposition of nationwide price controls.

STO Supermart now sells a sack of onions, a sack of potatoes, and a case of eggs per customer. Those who wish to purchase a greater quantity of the products are required to go to the warehouse.
