Leader of Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Ahmed Thasmeen Ali has said that the meeting held between six political parties and Civil Society Coalition to discuss reclaiming the airport from GMR, did not involve any planning.
Thasmeen made this statement on VTV’s ‘Fasmanzaru’ program last night.
Thasmeen said that a meeting was held between the coalition parties included in the government two days prior to the press conference, and that this meeting was concluded by the parties agreeing to hold the next meeting after investigating additional information provided by the government on the GMR issue.
He said that it was not the optimal course of action, to hold a meeting before the planned meeting could take place.
Thasmeen also stressed that India assists Maldives in numerous areas, and said that DRP would never participate in meetings held to attack India.
Thasmeen has denied rumours that leaders of DRP have special relations with GMR, and said that DRP never supported the previous government’s decision to award the airport to GMR.
