300-bed quarantine facility in Hulhumale’ will cost MVR 40 million

National Emergency Operations Center, on Wednesday, announced that the 300-bed Hulhumale’ Medical Facility being developed to treat patients in the event of a mass outbreak of COVID-19 in Maldives, will cost the government an estimated MVR 40 million to build and equip.

At the National Emergency Operations Center briefing on Wednesday night, spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez said it would cost MVR 12 million for the construction of the facility, and another MVR 28 million to procure the necessary medical equipment.

The facility is being developed on the plot of land in front of the Tree Top Hospital in suburban Hulhumale’.

According to Mabrouq, the facility will also include a service building and an accommodation block.

Total 19 people tested positive for the virus in Maldives, including two Italian nationals who had departed from Maldives before they were identified as virus patients.

13 of them, all foreign nationals either vacationing or working in resorts or safaris, have since recovered.

The number of active cases stands at four, all of whom are Maldivian nationals who travelled back from the UK.
