62 isolated as a safety measure after contact with suspected Covid-19 case

Government spokesperson Mabrouq Azeez has said that a number of employees from Velana International Airport have been placed in isolation after coming into contact with a suspected case of Covid-19 in the resort of Cinnamon Hakuraahuraa.

The suspected case from Hakuraahuraa was identified yesterday and monitoring mechanisms are now in place at the resort. Tests on the suspected case are being conducted, according to Mabrouq who added that a total of 62 people were moved into isolation in connection with the case.

“This includes 17 from Maldives Customs, 41 from Maldives Airports Company Limited, one from Immigration and three from Trans Maldivian Airways.” Said Mabrouq.

He added that the authorities have so far collected 673 samples out of which 660 had been tested as negative. Authorities are still waiting for the results of some tests. The Maldives has confirmed 13 cases of the virus so far, out of which five have made full recoveries.
