Local from safari arrested for violating restrictive measures

A local employee of a safari has been arrested after violating the restrictive measures placed on the boat.

Police stated that the 32-year old local male employee of the safari had arrived in Hulhumale’ after disembarking from a safari and was being charged with providing false information to the authorities.

The Director-General of Health has issued orders to restrict the movement of people, as precautionary measures against the situation with the Covid-19 virus in the Maldives. The government has also announced a state of public health emergency in the Maldives on March 12 to effectively contain the virus.

The man has now been ordered to be detained for five days by the Hulhumale’ magistrate court.
