VP: Children should be allowed to prosper in careers of their choosing

The vice president of Maldives, Faisal Naseem has urged all parents to ensure every child has the opportunity to prosper in a career chosen by them.

The vice president was speaking at the ceremony to inaugurate the ‘Heyvalla’ program, initiated by the Ministry of Education, held at Ungoofaaru School yesterday.

The future of the nation depended on nurturing a generation of competent and productive citizens, said the Vice President who elaborated on the priority given to this by other nations. He also noted the importance of human resources development, especially for countries with minimal resources like the Maldives.

Emphasizing the importance accorded to education sector development by the Administration, the Vice President highlighted that the largest allocation in the budget was earmarked for this sector.

What is "Heyvalla"?

‘Heyvalla’ is a nation-wide skills development program initiated by the Education Ministry to provide vocational training for students who complete secondary education. The program also entails internship opportunities and skills development in numerous fields.

As part of the program, a carpentry and sewing class was launched in Ungoofaaru School yesterday. At the function, the Vice President was presented with a wooden box designed by students of the carpentry class.
