Corrections: Former Pres. Yameen remains admitted at IGMH

Former president of the Maldives Abdulla Yameen is admitted in IGMH for pending medical examinations, according to Maldives Correctional Services.

Yameen, who is serving a five-year sentence after being found guilty of money laundering was transported to the capital on Wednesday to consult with a cardiologist.

Corrections media officer Aiminath Yusreen, speaking with “Sun” said that the medical examinations of the former president was still not completed and was admitted at IGMH. Yusreen said that the condition of Yameen is not serious and was admitted until the medical examinations were over. She also stated that an exact release date of the former president from the hospital was still not certain.

Former president Yameen who is the half brother of former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom is currently serving a five-sentence for money laundering.

The case described as a political farce by the opposition has been appealed to the High Court of Maldives. Yameen has previously complained of “psychological trauma” and his “deteriorating health” in the appeal hearing in High Court.
