Mohamed Shareef, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Bank of Maldives (BML), has resigned from the bank after over 25 years of service.

The bank confirmed his resignation in a press statement this Monday afternoon.

During his time with BML, Shareef served in a number of senior executive positions including Head of Card Center, Retail Banking Director and Operations Director, before being appointed the Deputy CEO and COO.

While neither the bank, nor Shareef himself has divulged the reason for his resignation, Shareef, in 2019, was accused by several government officials of facilitating the MMPRM embezzlement and money laundering scam – accusations which he denied.
