Rethink the tourism slogan, says MATATO

Maldives Association of Travel and Tour Operators (MATATO) has called upon the Ministry of Tourism to rethink the recently announced Maldivian tourism slogan, “Always Natural”.

In a Statement released today, MATATO said that the new slogan, which has replaced the old one that read as “Maldives, the Sunny Side of Life”, is not liked by many resorts as well as travel agencies.

“Information shared with us by international PR Media that has until now being close to the Maldives has shown that this new slogan does not symbolize Maldivian tourism best”, read the Statement of MATATO.

The Statement also said that the Logo designed by the same party that proposed the slogan contained drawings of certain kinds of fish that were not usually found in the Maldivian waters, and said that this showed the ignorance of the designers about the Maldivian sea-life.

The logo was designed for a fee exceeding 100,000 US Dollars.

Since tourism is the most significant industry for the Maldives, decisions on its marketing and other aspects should be taken after due diligence and consideration, MATATO Statement said in conclusion.
