Maldives shall progress only by leaving behind bitterness in the hearts: President

It is time to leave behind the bitterness in our hearts, after the revelations of CONI Report, and that is the only way to go forward with the nation, says President Dr. Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik.

Addressing the people at G.A. Kolamaafushi today afternoon, the President said that the Maldivians need to be united and caring and loving towards each other, and that it is unbecoming for the people to be hateful and confrontational towards each other. The President also noted that creating division among the people and treating our own as enemies would only harm the nation as a whole.

The President said that the people have to see national interests as the most important interests if the country is to progress and go forward. He also said that there is no other way to development.

Speaking thus, the President said that he was prepared to work with the Maldivian Democratic Party as well.

The President said that elections would be conducted next year, as scheduled under the requirements of the democratic system of the government and the laws, and that the one-year period until then should be utilized to bring development to the country through efforts of all the people united.

The President also assured that all beneficial and sustainable development projects initiated by Nasheed Administration would be carried forward without any interruptions.
