Male’ city mayor Shifa Mohamed has said that the fishermen’s park in Male’ city will be developed as a tourist hub.
At a ceremony to hand over the Tourister's terminal developed by MWSC over to the Male’ city council, mayor Shifa stated that the area will run as a business model.
“The information we have attained so far indicates that the area will become an important location for tourist arrivals and departures. As we all know, the area is close to many banks and businesses. Shops and restaurants are located nearby. So, we believe that the area will be an important location for tourists to head out and attain information.” said the mayor.
The mayor also stated the council’s intention to place items such as books to pass on information about the Maldives since Male’ is the capital and attracts tourists from resorts 24 hours a day. She also spoke about the marketing opportunities that the terminal will allow guesthouses.
“So, the location will become a tourist hub that provides information to all tourists. It will also have to provide flight and ferry information. which ferry leaves for which island on which day. They (tourists) won’t have to run to different locations to gain information.” said Mayor Shifa.
The council is also intending to turn the location into the base for training guest relation staff. This will provide youths with more job opportunities and create awareness among them, according to the mayor.
“We are trying to conceive the location as a model.” said the mayor.
