Mohamed Afrah has been elected as the President of the National Boating Association of the Maldives.
The association which was run under the name of Liveaboard Association from 2007 was given national status in December last year.
At a ceremony held in Unima Grand Hotel yesterday, members for the executive board and management of the association were elected.
Mohamed Afrah who was elected as the President is one of the co-founders of the association and has filled various roles in the association in the last 13 years. Afr4ah is also the Managing Director of Safari boat operators Canopus Maldives.
A Boating Association official stated to “Sun” that the priority of the association when it was run as the Liveaboard Association was safaris, but that would change now and the focus would be on all seagoing vessels.
“We analyzed industry issues and regulations this year. Next year, we will analyze the safety of seagoing vessels. Even now, dinghies and small boats are operated during yellow weather alerts. We aim to prohibit the use of such vessels during those situations.” said the official.
