Customs seizes 1.6 kilos of drugs from Brazilians on 2 separate occasions

Customs officials have seized 1.6 kilos of drugs from two Brazilian nationals that arrived in the Maldives on two separate occasions.

The first man, aged 42 was arrested on November 7, 2019, after suspicions of trafficking drugs. On inspection, officials found 837.2 grams of cocaine from his body.

The second man was arrested on November 25, 2019. The man, aged 29 years was discovered to be trafficking 765.2 grams of drugs that were tested and found positive to cocaine.

The combined cases amounted to a seizure 1.6 kilos of cocaine which has a street value of MVR 5.6 million. The drugs and the two men have now been transferred to the custody Police, according to Customs officials.
