Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has opened an additional inquiry into Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed Abdulla Didi following allegations he threatened the secretary-general of the Supreme Court.
JSC made its decision to open the new inquiry into the Chief Justice at its meeting this Tuesday.
The JSC, in a statement announcing its decision, said that the Chief Justice had instructed the Supreme Court’s secretary-general against implementing the regulations and policies established by the Department of Judicial Administration in light of the legislative amendments to the Judicature Act.
The Chief Justice, in addition to instructing the secretary-general against implementing the new regulations and policies, has also been accused on intimidating the secretary-general, obstructing the execution of his official duties, intimidating him, and threatening to fire him if he did not comply.
“The Supreme Court’s secretary-general was warned against any communication with Department of Judicial Administration (DJA). The Supreme Court’s secretary-general was accused of co-conspiring to stage a coup with the DJA, and was threatened with immediate dismissal if found to have engaged in any form of communication with the DJA,” reads JSC’s statement.
JSC confirmed it has made the decision to open an inquiry into the Chief Justice in connection to the allegation.
The Chief Justice is already under inquiry by the JSC in connection to multiple allegations of ethical misconduct – including his refusal to accept JSC’s instructions.
Additional Supreme Court justices under JSC inquiry includes; Justice Adam Mohamed, Justice Abdulla Areef, and Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed.
