Judges should always be role models for others, Chief Justice Abdul Ghani Mohamed has said.
He made the remarks at a ceremony held at the Supreme Court on Monday to appoint two new judges to the Family Court. The appointees were Ahmed Maumoon of Haveeree Manzil, L. Maabaidhoo, and Mohamed Zahid of Ilaza, R. Hulhudhuffaaru.
Addressing the newly sworn-in judges, the Chief Justice said that assuming the role of a judge requires significant personal transformation. He emphasized that these changes must be positive and aimed at shaping the judge’s judicial character.
“The justice of the judge will be linked to the integrity of the judge, the impartiality of the judge will be linked to integrity, the moral qualities of the judge will be linked to integrity,” he said.
He added that the conduct of judges, both inside and outside the courtroom, should reflect the dignity and independence of the judiciary. The public, he said, expects judges to carry out their duties with justice, integrity, and patience.
The ceremony marked a continuation of judicial appointments under Chief Justice Ghani, who was confirmed to the role in August 2025 following unanimous parliamentary approval.
