The World Bank has stated that it will be opening an office in the Maldives.
Finance Minister Ahmed Ameer signed the agreement for the office at the anniversary meeting of the World Bank in Washington, USA held from October 18-20. The agreement was signed on behalf of the World Bank by Hartwig Schafer the World Bank’s Vice President for the South Asia Region.
The Finance Minister also proposed to take part in the Finance Ministers for Climate Change at the meeting.
The World Bank is currently conducting a Dhivehi language survey for suggestions and ideas for the a Second System Country Diagnostic (SSCD) and has pledged to to provide aid with two projects in the Maldives this year.
One of these projects is the USD 30 million provided for the sustainable management of the state income and the other is a USD 20 million project to provide youths with employment opportunities.
