Soneva has established a mosquito extermination system in the Parliament.

The system established by Soneva in the Parliament was invented by a Dutch scientist and produced by a Japanese company and will exterminate mosquitoes in an environment-friendly manner by releasing Carbon Dioxide and Lactic Acid and will not include any chemicals used in insecticides and fogging.

Soneva also stated that some MPs had made complaints regarding mosquitoes in the Parliament and Soneva officials even provided information regarding how the technology works to MPs and the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed.

The maintenance team of the Parliament was also provided information on how to maintain the technology installed.

This technology is already in use at Soneva Fushi resort in B. Atoll and Soneva stated that the mosquitoes on the island had become immune to the insecticides that were sprayed on the island over the years.

The technology had seen 495 traps be installed on the island from June 2019 and Soneva commended the effect of the technology in reducing the mosquito population.

The amount of animal activity such as wasps, butterfly, and dragonflies had also increased on the island as a result of the technology according to Soneva.
