Overall improvement in fishing leads to a spike in exports

An overall improvement in fishing across Maldives has led to a 22 percent increase in exports in September.

Records released by Maldives Customs Service show five types of fish were exported from Maldives in September. The total fish exports were valued at MVR 129 million.

Chilled skipjack tuna led exports with a 45 percent share of the total exports. MVR 75 million worth of chilled skipjack tuna were exported during the period.

According to records, total exports in September was valued at MVR 166 million – making for a 22 percent boost compared to the MVR 136 million earned in September of 2018.

TOP DESTINATIONS FOR MALDIVIAN EXPORTS:

  • Thailand: 47 percent
  • France: 8 percent
  • UK: 6 percent
  • Germany: 6 percent
  • US: 5 percent

Maldives Customs Service also reports a boost in its earning due to the improvement in exports in September. Records show the agency earned MVR 286 million as income in September – a nine percent boost compared to the MVR 262 million it earned in September of 2018.
