After a recess period of one month, the Parliament is scheduled to reconvene once again on Thursday.
The Parliament had gon into recess after working five days beyond the scheduled sessions on September 5. The original schedule for the parliament would have seen it go into recess at the end of August.
Hassan Ziyaau, Media and Communications Director of the Parliament stated to "Sun" that the third parliamentary session of the parliament will begin on Thursday at 9:00. He also stated that the agenda for the meeting has not yet been set.
The third session of the Parliament was scheduled to begin at the beginning of October and go into recess at the end of November. The Parliament had met three times within the recess period. These meetings were to speed up the work on the proposed amendments to the Anti-Terrorism Act. Two committees of the Parliament had also worked during the recess period.
The biggest work that will be carried out in the third session of the Parliament will be the Decentralisation Act and the Housing Act according to the Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed. The Decentralisation Act is currently in the committee process and even though the Housing Act had not yet come to the Parliament, three resolutions were passed regarding housing in the second session.
The Parliament which was sworn in on May broke the record for the most number of Parliamentary meetings held with 47 meetings. The Speaker of the Parliament had rated the Parliament as having performed at a "B+" rate. However, critics pointed out that all of these meetings have resulted in no meaningful accomplishments being achieved by the Parliament during this period.
