Islamic Ministry has started an investigation into a group of foreigners who gave a religious address in Hulhumale'.
Photos of the religious address in Hulhumale' had gone viral on social media last weekend. An official of the Islamic Ministry had stated to "Sun" that the issue had not been reported to the Ministry by anyone but it had come to the attention of the Ministry last night.
Religious addresses in the Maldives can only be given after attaining special permission. Photos on social media show that there are around 40 foreigners gathered for the address. The address is given by a foreigner who is seated in front of them.
Maldives Immigration has stated that there are around 200,000 foreigners in the Maldives. It is estimated that 60,000 of these foreigners are living and working in the Maldives illegally.
