Health Minister Abdulla Ameen has inaugurated the Maldives National Health Accounts 2015-2017 – a report compiled based on assessments of government expenditure and distribution of resources within the health sector.

The report was unveiled in a ceremony held at Hotel Jen this Thursday.

The report is compiled based on a special framework set by World Health Organization (WHO).

Maldives National Health Accounts 2015-2017 is the third such report to be released by the Maldivian government.

It shows MVR 6,000 million was invested on the country’s health sector in 2017. 77 percent of the investment was government spending.

It also shows that 60 percent of health expenditure was for consultations with doctors, while 19 percent of health expenditure was hospitalization fees.

The Maldivian government was also found to have allocated 32.3 percent of its budget in 2017 for spending on the health sector – making Maldives the top public spender on health care in South East Asia.

Health Ministry says the report will be used to draft healthcare policies to better utilize state resources and funds on the health care sector.
