Newly opened Ithaafushi ranks second on service charge list

Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi resort has been ranked second in the highest service charge resorts in the Maldives. The resort which opened its doors just two months ago is owned and operated under the Hilton Worldwide Luxury Hotel brand. 

The resort operating in Male' atoll paid MVR 12,829.44 (USD 832) in August.

The resort ranked first on this list in Chevel Blanc Randheli which paid MVR 19,844.46 (USD 1,286.93). Third place was taken by Anantara Kihavah Villas which paid MVR 12,791.20 (USD 829.52)

The fourth on the list was Vommuli Resort which gave MVR 12,518.88 (USD 811.86).  The fifth was Dusit Thani Maldives which paid MVR 12,012.18 (USD 779). After Dusit Thani, Velaa Private Island paid the most in service charge with MVR 11,663.23 (USD 756.37).

The issue of service charges not being paid to employees of resorts has been a hot topic in recent years and has prompted amendments to the law to make a mandatory 10 percent service charge be given to employees of all resorts.
