Tree Top Hospital’s neurosurgery department has successfully performed a frontal craniotomy and removed a lesion on the brain of a tumor patient.
Tree Top reports it was the hospital’s first frontal craniotomy.
The surgery was performed on a 57-year-old brain tumor patient on Monday, September 2,
Craniotomy is a brain surgery, where surgeons remove a lesion in the brain through an opening in the skull.
Tree Top’s surgical team which performed the frontal craniotomy was led by Dr. Juan Lourido, Consultant Neurosurgeon and Principal Consultant Anesthetist, Dr. Amr Safwat, and supported by Consultant Anesthetist Dr. Bishnu Kesavan and Medical Officer Dr. Bosco Lawrence.
The team was assisted by a team of Operations Theatre nurses.
According to Tree Top, Dr. Juan Lourido is a neurosurgeon with extensive experience in diagnosing a wide range of neurological conditions and performing surgery with minimally invasive techniques. He previously served as Head of Neurosurgery at Hospitales San Roque, Spain and as Director at ICN-Instituto Canario de Neurocirugia, Canary Islands.
He also has several visiting fellowships to his credit; Microsurgery in Zurich, Neuro-Intensive care in Lund University, Neuro-Oncology at Harvard University and Melbourne, and Vascular in Dallas.
“We are happy to report that the procedure went well”, said Dr. Juan, following the surgery. “This surgery will relieve the pain and assist to determine next course of treatment”.
