Public asked to brace for heavy rain, flooding

Disaster Management Authority has advised the public to take precautionary measures to face the severe weather conditions forecasted for across Maldives over the next 24 hours.

Maldives Meteorological Service forecasts fairly widespread rain with occasional heavy showers and thunderstorms across Maldives.

It has warned winds may gust 45-50 miles per hour during showers.

Disaster Management has advised the public to take precautionary measures to minimize damage to property due to strong winds, by reinforcing roofs and other possessions which are in danger of being carried away due to wind.

It has also advised the public to pile sandbags at doorways to prevent flood water from getting into residences, move household appliances and other possessions which are in danger of flood damage to safer locations, and cut off electricity to electronic appliances.

Seafarers have also been warned to be attentive to the latest weather updates.

Maldives Meteorological Service has issued yellow warning over the region from H. A. Atoll to A. Dh. Atoll, and from G. A. Atoll to Addu City.
