Maldives wins bronze at Chinese Cuisine World Championship

Maldives has won a bronze medal in its first time competing in the Chinese Cuisine World Championship.

Chinese Cuisine World Championship 2019 was held in Dalian, northeast China's Liaoning Province from August 21 to 24.

Over 300 chefs from 30 countries took part in the competition.

Maldives was represented at the competition by a team of six chefs from the Chefs Guild of Maldives.

They are:

  • Ahmed Fatheen, owner of Oishii restaurant
  • Mohamed Adil, chef from Faarufushi Maldives
  • Ahmed Mazim, chef from Four Seasons Maldives Landaa Giraavaru
  • Riffath Mohamed, chef from Malahini Kudabandos
  • Ibrahim Nathif, chef from Baros Maldives
  • Ibrahim Naeem, culinary consultant

Chinese Cuisine World Championship tested the talents of culinary experts in team and individual events.

Maldives competed at the team event and were made to come up with a four-course meal from set ingredients which won a bronze medal.

Chinese Cuisine World Championship is organized by the Chinese Chefs Association to promote Chinese cuisine across the world. The competition is held every two years, and is the only Chinese cuisine competition endorsed by the World Association of Chef Society (WACS).

The first Chinese Cuisine World Championship was held in 2014.

The chef at Paradise Island Resort, Ish’haq Solih served as manager of the Maldivian team, and on the jury for the individual event during the competition.
