The parliament has decided to hold sessions on Thursday and Sunday to work on the bills proposed by the government. A parliament session will also be conducted tonight.
Speaker of the parliament and former president Mohamed Nasheed stated in the parliament's first session held today after the Eid Al-Adha holidays that there was a lot of work to complete during the next two weeks and that the bills proposed by the government should be finalized within these two weeks.
"We aim to finish up the six bills proposed by the government and send them for ratification within these two weeks," said the speaker.
Speaker Nasheed also stated that the proposed bills regarding fishing would be the biggest and most important work to be done in this term and to speed things up, a parliament session will be held tonight as well.
Parliament regulations state that sessions can be held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, however, the speaker of the parliament has the discretionary power to schedule and hold more sessions.
Parliament sessions were also held during the night to finish up work before the Eid Al-Adha holiday break.
