The United Nations Convention on International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation has been submitted to the Parliament for approval.

The treaty is a legislative framework designed to establish uniform policies and mechanisms in dealing with enforcement of international settlement agreements produced through mediation among member nations.

Maldivian Constitution requires the government to gain parliamentary approval before signing any international treaty.

The treaty was sent to the National Security and Foreign Relations Committee of the Parliament for evaluation this Monday.

The treaty was passed by the UN at its annual general assembly held in December 20, 2018. Member nations are scheduled to sign the treaty in a ceremony in Singapore on Wednesday, August 7.
