Ex-VP Adeeb arrested on boat trying to enter India

Indian news agencies have reported that the Maldivian ex-Vice President Ahmed Adeeb was arrested by Indian Police on a tugboat while trying to enter India illegally. 

The news was reported by a Tamil news agency named "Puthiya Thalaimurai". Adeeb was arrested by Indian Police after receiving intelligence that he was trying to enter India through the port of Tuticorin. It was reported that he was trying to enter India by posing as a crea member on the tugboat.

Adeeb tried to enter India by posing as a sailor on a tugboat named "Virgo-9". The news agencies reported that there were ten people on board the tugboat. They also stated that they had recieved information from RAW and Indian customs that there were eight Indonesian nationals as well as one Tamil individual. The news agencies confirmed that it was ex-VP Adeeb who was the tenth person onboard.

The Supreme Court of the Maldives has held the passport of the former VP due to his pending trial. While Adeeb's phone has been turned off, Maldivian Police and Foreign Ministry has not yet commented on the events.

The tug boat was a Singapore flagged boat, and additional information has shown that it arrived at the port of Tuticorin around 9:17 in the morning. Boat records have shown that it traveled to Tuticorin from the Maldives after anchoring near K. Feydhoo Finolhu. Indian news agencies reported that the boat left the Maldives on Saturday and carried construction materials between Maldives and India.
