The United Nation's Secretary General's special envoy on youths, Ms. Jayathuma Vikramanyaka will be visiting the Maldives on August 12, 2019.
Ms. Jayathuma will be visiting after accepting an invitation from the Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof. The two met at the World Conference on Ministers Responsible for Youths held in Lisbon, Portugal from June 21-23 and Youth Forum 2019. Ms. Jayathuma will be visiting the Maldives to take part in the International Youth Day festivities planned to be held in Velidhoo of Noonu Atoll.
Ms. Jayathuma will meet with Vice President Faisal Naseem, Speaker of Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid as well as young members of the Parliament and members of the National Youth Council.
This is the first time a youth envoy of the Secretary-General is visiting the Maldives. Ms. Jayathuma from Sri Lanka was appointed to the post on June 2017.
