Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that he does not want an invitation to participate in the 17th SAARC Summit, from the government.
Talking to journalist at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, on his way to Singapore and Malaysia on an unofficial visit, President Maumoon said that since 1985 he has been privileged to attend the SAARC Summit till the last Summit, and that he is the one and only leader to have being able attend all these Summits. And it is a reality which is recognized by all member states of the SAARC.
Maumoon said that the people and the governments of all the countries which he has visited had accepted and are grateful to the services he had rendered to SAARC. He also added that an invitation to attend the coming SAARC Summit on November, from the Foreign Minister is unwanted.
The Foreign Minister earlier on the 22nd of this month, in an interview given to MNBC One had said that he will not invite Maumoon to participate in the 17th SAARC Summit.
Maumoon was accompanied by his wife, Nasreena today on his visit and Maumoon revealed that the reason for the visit was for his wife’s medical treatment.
