The Secretariat of the Parliament says it has requested additional security from Defense Ministry following a wave of threatening text messages to several parliamentarians.
Speaking at a press conference held by the Parliament this Thursday, Secretary-General Fathimath Niusha confirmed several parliamentarians have recently received threating text messages.
She said the Parliament has requested additional security from the Defense Ministry following the threats.
She did not specify the parliamentarians who received the threats.
“If any parliamentarian receives any form of threat and reports it to the Speaker of Parliament, we [the Secretariat] we have been reporting it to the Ministry of Defense,” said Niusha.
She said the parliamentarians who received the threats have been arranged additional security by the Defense Ministry.
