Jumhooree Party (JP) has said that Maldivian Democratic Party’s (MDP) proposition to join the government must be assessed carefully, to ascertain whether it is part of former President Mohamed Nasheed’s deceitful planning.
President of JP Dr Ibrahim Didi made this statement at a ceremony held last night for JP to welcome new members.
“We have to think carefully, about whether this is part of a hidden agenda by Nasheed,” Dr Didi said.
The former President of MDP, Dr Didi said that it must be studied whether this proposition was passed by MDP according to its procedures.
He stressed that the proposition should also have been accompanied by a reconstitution of MDP’s current leadership.
Dr Didi pointed out that there is no guarantee that MDP will not, tomorrow, go back on its decision to join the government.
“Nasheed said in front of the media on the day after the CNI [Commission of National Inquiry] released its report, that he accepts the report. But that statement was followed by MDP’s usual activities of harassing the government and members of the public, and uncivilized acts such as yelling ‘traitor’ at people,” Dr Didi said.
Leader of Jumhooree Party Gasim Ibrahim said last night that the colossal damage caused by MDP activists during protests, led by Nasheed, must be kept in mind when assessing MDP’s request to join the government.
