Independent Institutions Committee of the Parliament has passed a motion dismiss Ismail Sofwan from Maldives Broadcasting Commission.

The committee passed the motion to call for a general parliamentary vote to dismiss Sofwan during a meeting this Tuesday.

The motion was proposed by South Galolhu MP Mikhail Ahmed Naseem and seconded by Biledhoo MP Ahmed Haleem (Dhonbileh Haleem).

Sofwan is being dismissed from BroadCom based on his failure to report to work in eight months. He had been serving as Vice President of BroadCom up until the commission called a vote to replace him on June 17.

Similar to the case of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)’s President Hassan Luthfee, Sofwan had failed to report back to work at the end of a leave.

A motion to dismiss Luthfee has also been sent to the parliamentary floor by the committee.
