Modi to be presented with Order of the Rule of Izzudeen

President’s Office has announced the decision of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to present Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Order of the Rule of Izzudeen – the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the State of Maldives.

Modi will be presented with the Order of the Rule of Izzudeen during a special ceremony held at the office this Saturday evening.

The office reports that Modi is being presented with the honor in recognition of his services to cement the longstanding, amicable ties between Maldives and India, and for the magnanimous assistance that the Indian government has continued to provide Maldives under Modi’s stewardship.

Previous foreign dignitaries and leaders presented with the Order of the Rule of Izzudeen are:

• Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh on March 15, 1972
• Louis Mountbatten, 1st Earl Mountbatten of Burma on March 15, 1972
• Then-President of South Korea, Chun Doo-hwan on October 13, 1984
• Then-Secretary-General of Commonwealth, Sir Shridath Surendranath Ramphal on November 16, 1989
• Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal bin Abdulaziz al Saud on December 2, 2009
• President of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas on June 4, 2013
