DRP’s Deputy Leader, Ibrahim Shareef has said that today, Maldives is showing the similar signs of a failed countries just like Rwanda and Uganda where both the countries governments ended up in failure.
Speaking at a News Conference given in DRP Office, Shareef told journalists that today we are seeing the government trying to intimidate the Judiciary and in today’s era no civilized country will be subjected to such a picture.
Shareef said that a lot of countries, who had faced failure, had been due to taking the Judiciary into their own hands and onto the streets. Today what the Maldives are witnessing as to seeing deliberate actions against the Judiciary and the Independent Institutions is of major concern to DRP.
“If this is how it’s going to be, there is the danger of Maldives going into a Mob rule. The government is criticizing the Judiciary for not completing the court cases. They are not telling what to correct, nor are they revealing what the Judiciary had done to wrong the people. But what the government is doing is that failing to do their obligation towards their duties; they are drawing the people onto the streets and creating unrest thereby inflicting divisions and hatred in the country.
Shareef also added that if such an incident has occurred in any country of the world, the matter would have been acted upon immediately. He also said the meetings and forums which were held to undermine the Judiciary is highly condemned and he also argued the Prosecutor General and the Courts to act immediately against the people who were involved in the incident.
He also stated that if no actions are taken against those people, there is the danger of Maldives falling into an upheaval of unrest and commotion.
