Mujthaaz Fahmy has been titled Justice Retired. The special prestigious title, awarded by the Judiciary, was awarded to Mujthaaz Fahmy (Mujey) at a ceremony held in the Supreme Court last night. At a moment, where the Judiciary is been criticized heavily, Mujthaaz received his title, and certificate from the Honorable Chief of Justice, Ahmed Faiz Hussein. Mujey is one of the most criticized judiciary figure within last year.
The title awarded to Mujthaaz is in accordance with the Section 24 of the Act on Judges, was the “Justice Retired” title, which is entitled to Judges who retire from Judiciary with respect and honors.
Speaking after awarding the title to Mujthaaz, the Chief Justice said that he had been privileged to work side by side with Mujthaaz and as a result has gained a lot of experience from it. He also acknowledged the services rendered by the Justice Retired Mujthaaz Fahmy, to the Judiciary. The Chief Justice also highlighted the works which Mujthaaz had incorporated in to the Judiciary and that one should learn from his experiences.
Mujthaaz while describing his work to permanent the Judges according to the 282 Chapter of the Constitution of Maldives said that he and the rest of the people who are working in the Judiciary are like passengers traveling in one vessel.
‘The vessel while traveling encountered a wild storm. The Captain fell from the vessel. But not before, helping the other 191 passengers on board to wear their life jackets. This Ceremony in itself can be called a ceremony where the saved passenger seek out the Captain and thank him´ said the Retired Mujthaaz.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mujthaaz said that he is very happy in receiving such a title at such a happy accession. He also added that since joining the judiciary on 1981 and retiring after 29 long years, he is more than happy and satisfied about his in-put and services rendered to the Judiciary.
The first job Mujthaaz landed on was as the Judge of Kunahandhoo Court. He was later on the Judge of Male’ City Court Number Two and Court Number Three. He worked as the Judge, and the Chief Judge in Civil Court, Judge in Supreme Court, Member of the Judicial Commission, Deputy and the President of the Judicial Commission.
