Ibrahim “Ibraa” Ismail, Special Advisor to the President, has said that there is no justice in the Maldives and that justice can only be established by getting rid of “the seven lunatics”, in an obvious reference to the seven Justices of the Supreme Court of the Maldives.
Speaking in a gathering held at MDP Activity Centre in Malé last night, Ibraa said that Justices of the Supreme Court “were mentally retarded” and that they did not have the ability to understand the Constitution.
“The only way in which we can bring justice to this country is to oust the seven lunatics. The judges do not have the ability to comprehend what is written in the Constitution. I will say they are mentally retarded”, said Ibraa.
Ibraa also said that it was the Justices of the Supreme Court who actually undermined the dignity of the Courts of law in the country and that the Judicial Services Commission had fallen into bad reputation because of the judges.
“There is no justice in this country. We have to establish justice by taking to the streets. The dignity of the courts is not undermined because we conduct demonstrations and protests in front of court buildings. That is something perfectly legal”, Ibraa said.
Ibraa accused the Justices of the Supreme Court of influencing the judicial decisions of lower court judges, and stated that he would file a case with the Civil Services Commission requesting for the removal of Supreme Court Justices from office.
Other MDP leaders, including former Attorney General Dr. Ahmed Savaad and Mariyah Ahmed Didi, former Chairperson of MDP, condemned the Judiciary.
