DRP criticizes the government for undermining the dignity of Judiciary

Ahmed Tasmin Ali, Leader of main opposition Divehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP) has accused the government of trying to undermine the dignity of the Maldivian Judiciary. Tasmin said that the government is doing this because the courts did not let it and the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to dictate how the judges should carry out their duties in dispensing justice.

In an interview given to DhiTV, Tasmin said that his party would not let the ruling party to influence the Judiciary by threatening riots and demonstrations.

Tasmin condemned today’s protests organized by MDP against the Judiciary, and also condemned the attacks targeted by MDP activists on the private residence of former President Maumoon Abdul Qayyoom and also some other private residences of Maumoon’s family members.

“No one’s home should be attacked in this manner. If this is being done to achieve a particular goal, then I would say it shall fail to achieve that goal”, said Tasmin.
