Police have commenced special operations since 18:00 today, to prepare for any unrest which might take place following the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) publishing its report on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Hussain Waheed made this statement at a press conference held at Iskandar koshi today.
He said that under these operations, some regions in Male’ will be restricted and strict action will be taken against anyone who tries to create unrest.
He said that the creation of violence in any region of the Maldives will not be tolerated.
Waheed noted however, that the Police will cooperate with peaceful gatherings and provide security when necessary at protests.
He said that as part of the special operations, checks will be made on vessels arriving in Male’.
“Vessels arriving in Male’, especially those which enter at Jetty Nos.1, 2, and 3 will be diverted by Marine Police based on the situation,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the Police had received information that plans are being made by groups, in collaboration with criminals who have been released under the Second Change program, to create unrest in Male’.
He informed that the special operations will be put into action in all regions of the Maldives.
