Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has said that the purpose of the report of the Commission of National Inquiry (CNI) should be to restore peace and calm in the Maldives.
A statement issued by the former President states that the report should act as a platform for unity between politicians, and as an opportunity to restore peace and order in the country.
Through the statement, Gayoom expressed full confidence that the report would put an end to the doubts surrounding the legitimacy of the current government.
Gayoom noted that the report would allow people to focus on more important issues faced by the country, such as the current financial challenges, restoring democracy, upholding the rule of law, and fighting corruption.
He also highlighted that it is the responsibility of all Maldivians to ensure a bright future for upcoming generations, and urged all political parties to cooperate with the President’s advice on peace-talks.
