Maldives Labor and Social Democratic Party has urged everyone in the Maldivian labor force to form unions to protect themselves against political discrimination and all forms of illegal and unfair action.
In a statement this Tuesday, newly-registered Labor Party expressed alarm at receiving reports of coercion and penalties against employees, as well as termination of employees over political differences.
“This party urges all workers to unite and form unions to ward off such unlawful actions,” wrote Labor Party in its statement.
The party also pledged political and legal assistance to any worker who is unlawfully penalized or terminated.
It has asked anyone who wishes to seek the help of the party to either email it at [email protected] or call its office at 7476000.
Labor Party was founded by leading local attorney, Abdulla Haseen.
