Maldives Immigration, this Sunday, launched passport services via email in a bid to increase convenience of its services to the general public.

The new online passport service marks the end of having to wait in queue to submit request forms for renewal of passports.

HOW IT WORKS

Maldivian citizens are required to send passport requests to the Immigration’s email address [email protected]; with the full name, national identity card number and contact number in the subject line.

Documents which need to be attached to the email are: scan of passport request form, scan of the national identity card, scan of a MVR 10 revenue stamp,  scan of the last passport, and soft copy of a passport size photo dated no more than one month.

The documents need to be colour scans in JPEG format.

An email will be sent by Immigration within 48 hours with payment details barring no issues with the submission.

Immigration warns lost or stolen passports, damaged passports, and second generation passports with more than eight months to expire are not eligible for the online service.

Passports will be issued from Immigration’s offices in Male’ City, H. Dh. Kulhudhuffushi, Fuvahmulah City, and Hithadhoo, Addu City.

Maldives Immigration has also announced plans to establish a new communications network and call center, which will be launched on February 25.
