BML suspends 2 employees in light of multi-million embezzlement scam

The national bank, Bank of Maldives (BML) has placed two of its employees on suspension following a multi-million embezzlement scam within the bank.

BML has launched an internal audit to investigate the scam – which’s exact value is yet to be confirmed.

Unconfirmed reports over the social media point at the two employees embezzling over MVR 8 million.

PR Manager of BML, Mohamed Saeed reported that the bank had established effective regulations, policies and internal controls to stop any possible illegal or negligent activity within the bank.

“Any violation by any employee will be thoroughly investigated through investigative agencies and meted the strictest penalty by the bank,” said Saeed.
