The Supreme Court, this Monday, held the preliminary hearing in the dispute over the leadership of former ruling party Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).
The case was originally filed at the Civil Court, put was taken over by the Supreme Court in October, 2018.
The original lawsuit was filed at the Civil Court by PPM member Ali Ahmed from L. Gan, who asked the court to determine the decision to dismiss former Maldivian President and Leader of PPM, Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, as unlawful and to determine him as the party’s legitimate leader.
The Supreme Court held the preliminary hearing in the case this Monday, during which both sides exchanged documents.
Meanwhile, those within PPM loyal to its current leader, former Maldivian President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, have filed for registration of a new political party, People’s National Congress (PNC) in preparation for an unfavorable ruling in the legal dispute.
