President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has inaugurated the largest school in Maldives, the Huravee School, built in neighborhood I of Hulhumale’.
Huravee School was contracted to AMIN Construction by Housing Development Corporation (HDC) for MVR 132 million.
The school was opened this Sunday morning with the beginning of the academic new year 2019.
Speaking during the inauguration, Solih said Huravee School was an important cornerstone in the development of Hulhumale’, and a valuable resource to families which wish to migrate to the city.
“This school has been designed to complement the system of well-rounded education. This school is, both in capacity and resources, is designed to teach in one session and enough to run eight island nation schools,” said Solih.
Solih stressed that his administration was committed to building a productive future generation through proper education and training.
“This can only be achieved by ensuring every child who goes through the education system emerges a well behaved student whose education is based on the principles of Islamic belief,” said Solih.
Huravee School is named after Sultan al-Ghazi al-Hasan Izzuddin al-Huravee (Dhon Bandaarain) who saved Maldives from Malabari rule, and become the first sultan of the Huraa dynasty.
“It is my hope that this institution produces a generation who will provide valuable service to this nation such as those by Dhon Bandaarain – the sultan who Huravee School is named after,” said Solih.
Huravee School has 53 classrooms and 60 teachers – all Maldivians – and is able to accommodate approximately 1,700 students.
The school will teach from grades 1-9 and 11 this year. And will introduce grade 10 and 12 in 2020.
